The Challenge

Welcome to the PS (picked or stabbed) Challenge website. Bookmark this page so you can easily browse through the information over the next 6 weeks. Here's the "skinny" on the challenge:
  • 6 weeks of no processed foods
  • if it comes in a box... probably not PS approved
  • no high fructose corn syrup in ANYTHING
  • when shopping for food, stay out of the isles. Nothing in there was stabbed or picked!
  • shop whole, real, fresh foods only.
  • water water water!
You should be eating so much good food throughout the day that by the evening you feel satisfied and not starving (every 3-4 hours). You have probably already figured out that this way of life takes planning and organization. You can't just wake up and go. You have got to plan and pack for the day. More food than you think you may even eat. Very important. Be sure you are;
  • eating a protein with your fruit/veggie. It's called food pairing and it plays an important role in maintaining your insulin levels. Insulin is also called the "fat" hormone. If your insulin is unregulated it sends a signal to your body to store fat. Food pairing and timing (every 2-3 hours) are key to maintaining insulin levels.
  • grains/carbohydrates are not the enemy. Eat complex carbsQuinoa, brown rice, ezekiel products. It's not a low carb diet.
There has been a multitude of questions over what is considered PS approved, particularly the grains section. Here's a list of approved;
  • nuts of any kind (except corn nuts!)
  • whole grain breads.... http://www.foodforlife.com/ . Don't be fooled by "enriched"... that's aka processed
  • barley, corn, oats, spelt, rye, whole wheat, quinoa, brown rice, wild rice, bulgar wheat
These are great, healthy choices in terms of a complex carbohydrate. But remember, always eat a protein with your carbohydrate.

Here is another website I use all the time to make meal planning easy. Yes it may initially take time, but it is a good habit to get into. Investing time into making sure you and your family are nourished properly is a wise investment.

Alcohol? Really? Can't you take a 6 week break? I know you can do it!

Coffee? Heck yes! Just no coffee mate style products. Organic milk/half and half. Stevia is a great natural sweetener. NO sweet n low! That's some scary stuff!

More ideas...

Breakfast; eggs, greek yogurt, fruit, Ezekial bread products, any fruit/veggie combo.

Lunch; tuna, any salad stuff, left over dinner, any fruit/veggie, 100% natural meat (boars head) etc...

Use the links above to create fun and exciting meals. Try new things. get the kids involved in the cooking process. Make it an adventure!

Please feel free to post comments and any recipe ideas! Lets get started!
